This course will teach Powershell users how to manage Microsoft applications with Powershell. Participants will manage the Windows environment (file system, AD, Exchange) using commands executed in the shell and by creating real PowerShell scripts.

Learning Goals

In this course you will learn how to manage your Windows environment using Windows PowerShell. Using simple commands and scripts you will control your Windows Servers, your Active Directory structure and your Exchange Servers. You will learn how to customize the PowerShell environment to your needs.

Target Audience

This course is intended for System Administrators or System Engineers in a Windows environment with basic Powershell scripting experience.

Module 1: Managing IIS

  • Working with the IIS Provider
  • Creating Web sites, web applications, application pools
  • Changing IIS Configuration Settings

Module 2: Managing SQL

  • Working with the SQL Provider
  • Retrieving information from your SQL Server
  • Working with Invoke-SQLcmd
  • Creating SQL server databases

Module 3: Managing SharePoint 2010

  • SharePoint Management Shell
  • Getting Information from SharePoint
  • Creating Web Applications, Site Collections and Sites
  • Working with Lists and Libraries
  • Managing Service Applications

Module 4: Managing Active Directory

  • Getting Active Directory domain information
  • Accessing the Active Directory service
  • Creating users
  • Updating user properties
  • Creating and managing other objects
  • Bulk changes

Module 5: Managing Exchange Server

  • Creating mailboxes
  • Moving mailboxes
  • Managing public folders
  • Managing databases
